This site was first suggested
and then designed by Alex Kallivroussis (info@artkomplex.ch) in
Switzerland. A painter himself, he thought my work would be enhanced
by a new site and then volunteered to go about designing these pages.
You can't imagine how pleased I am with the results and the feeling
of friendship that grew as we emailed back and forth while he worked
all this out. Then he did even more - showing me how to update the
pages and add new info. It's been a great experience and we hope
you enjoy the result.

january thru may 2008
There's still hope, because of the time-worn observation 'sex
sells'. And what is my art about if not sex? :-) Yep, just as
I'm hitting my stride, playing with the big boys, getting congrats
on my UnZipped coverage, (check it out here-
) what else is happening? The price of gas and food shoots
sky high putting doubts in my mind whether or not us guys can
get thru this economic/political thing together. There's this
nagging feeling that it's going to be instead every man for himself.
That UnZipped article made my life sound more glamorous.But lots
of times it's been rice and beans, nevermind how exotic the scenery.
Just to say that I've lived frugally, and that's made the travel
and everything possible. Frugality didn't come naturally, as I
was brought up to be a good little American consumer and somehow
received the weirdest sense of value. I was living in a shack,
a little woodstove for heat, maybe three electrical outlets and
a hotplate to cook on and what did I decide to buy? Twelve four-piece
place settings of Reed & Barton Francis I sterling silverware.
It's called illusions of grandeur, and I had more than my share.

This year, I was in Rio from November of 07 until the end of
March 08. Lots of rain, lots of noise from the apartment next
door, but oh so nice. Even without the 'tourist attraction' the
city has an energy, aura, that makes me want more and more.

Still some emails are coming
in commenting on my letters with Harry. I've moved what letters
I had here into the journal section. You know, it had been my intention
to publish all our correspondence, but after some mental anguish
I decided not to. As they say in the theater, 'always leave them
wanting more'. One day maybe I'll figure some way that I'm comfortable
sharing them, but for now just let me say that I'm really bummed
out that Mainardi and others are all on the 'poor Harry what a misanthrope'
wagon. A very few times you meet (or not!)someone (in their old
age,handicapped with emphysema) and then pass judgment on their
entire life/personality? I don't think so. You're gifted with all
their art and in the book you subsequently publish (to your own
financial advantage) you dish about their dirt? And I quote from
Mainardi himself- "I realized this mess was one more thing
Harry worried about people discovering." Gee, Robert, swell
of you to then publish it to the world. |
